Thomas Voorn started to work from his fascination for prints in the ‘Florals & Checks' portraits as research for a contemporary clash and match in fashion. After developing floral prints of flowers and plants from his garden, he worked on check-patterns. The familiar tartan print is freely interpreted and translated into a contemporary black and white variation.

"...At the moment I am interested to see where the aesthetic border is, where dose meets overdose; where white meets black in print, where darkness meets light. During the design process I am constantly looking for a clash of thick and thin lines, pinstripes, dots, and other shapes I want to incorporate into a design I call 'Tartan'. Balancing the design between rough and handmade vs. digital and slick.."
